Review: Understanding Radiographic Changes Associated with Navicular Syndrome--Are We Making Progress?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The etiopathogenesis and radiographic features of navicular syndrome remain controversial. However, as our knowledge of pathophysiology increases, better decisions regarding radiographic interpretation are made. Employment of magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography will lead to earlier, more accurate diagnosis of navicular syndrome. Navicular syndrome in equine patients anatomy, causes, and diagnosis.
Navicular syndrome is a chronic and often progressive disease affecting the navicular bone and bursa, deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT), and associated soft tissue structures composing the navicular apparatus. This syndrome has long been considered one of the most common causes of forelimb lameness in horses. Diagnosis of navicular syndrome is based on history, physical examination, lameness ex...
متن کاملOsteoarthritis in horses – Part 1: relationship between clinical and radiographic examination for the diagnosis
Locomotor disorders are very common in the equine clinic, which may be partly due to the different types of activities horses develop. Osteoarthritis (OA), commonly known as degenerative joint disease, presents an considerable role in the series of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and may be associated with other problems such as navicular syndrome, periostitis or osteochondrosis. This a...

Navicular syndrome is a chronic, progressive condition affecting the navicular bone and bursa, deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT), and associated soft tissue structures composing the navicular apparatus. The treatment options for navicular syndrome are as varied as the proposed causes of the condition. The severity of clinical signs, intended use and workload of the horse, and owner compliance w...
متن کاملThe Rare Cuboid-Navicular Coalition Presenting as Chronic Foot Pain
Tarsal coalitions are relatively rare diagnoses affecting adolescent patients that typically present with progressive foot pain. Cuboid-navicular coalition, a type of tarsal coalition, is extremely rare with less than 10 reported cases to date. Most prevailing theories reported have described this specific type of coalition as asymptomatic except at specific moments of stress and exercise. The ...

OBJECTIVE To examine articular cartilage of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint and distal sesamoidean impar ligament (DSIL) as well as the deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT) for adaptive responses to contact stress. SAMPLE POPULATION Specimens from 21 horses. PROCEDURE Pressure-sensitive film was inserted between articular surfaces of the DIP joint. The digit was subjected to a load. Fin...
